Fasten off & cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail to sew on granny squares with whip stitches later.
Bucket
Crochet 5 Circle Flower Granny Squares following the instructions below. The instructions below are adjusted to make it possible to make the 2 last rounds in the same color.
With CB ch 5, sl st in first ch creating a ch-loop.
Round 1 with CB: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc + ch 1), *dc 1 into ch-loop, ch 1*, repeat from *to* 10 times, sl st in 3rd ch from beg of round (= 12 dc + 12 ch). Fasten off & cut yarn.
Round 2 with CC: Make slipknot. *puff 1 in next ch-sp, ch 3*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st st (=48 st). Fasten off & cut yarn.
Round 3 with CA: Make slipknot. *sc 1 in next ch-sp, ch 5*, repeat from *to* until you have 1 st ch-sp left, sc 1 in last ch-sp, ch 2, dc 1 in first st on round (=69 st).
*Last dc counts as 3 ch and creates the last ch-sp.
Round 4 with CA: sc 1 directly in last ch-sp on prev round, ch 3, sc 1 in next ch-sp, ch 1, dc 5 in next ch-sp, ch 2, dc 5 in same ch-sp, ch 1, *sc 1 in next ch-sp, ch 3, sc 1 in next ch-sp, ch 1, dc 5 in next ch-sp, ch 2, dc 5 in same ch-sp, ch 1*, repeat from *to* 2 more times, sl st in 1st st (=76 st).
Fasten off & cut yarn.
Assembly
- Sew the granny squares evenly along the edge of the crown of the hat using CA and whip stitches. Note: The edge of the crown of the hat has 90 stitches while the edges of the granny squares has 95 stitches total, so you need to even it out.
- Using the same yarn and technique, sew the granny squares to each other along the edges.
Bucket Edging
Crochet along the lower edge of the granny squares.
Note: The edge has 95 stitches total, so you’ll need to add one extra when you crochet the first round.
Round 1: Make slipknot. Sc evenly around the lower edge of the hat, turn (=96 st).
Round 2: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), *sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in the next 15 st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st sc, turn (=102 st).
Round 3: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), *sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in the next 16 st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st sc, turn (=108 st).
Round 4: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), *sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in the next 17 st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st sc, turn (=114 st).
Round 5: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), *sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in the next 18 st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st sc, turn (=120 st).
Round 6: Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a st), *sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in the next 19 st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 1st sc, turn (=126 st).
