HOW TO USE THE DECREASE AND INCREASE EVENLY FOR CROCHET AND KNITTING – YARN CALCULATOR

The decrease and increase evenly calculator will help you figure out how many stitches you should either knit or crochet before you decrease or increase evenly.

It is handy to know how to calculate both when you’re following a crochet or knitting pattern & when you’re designing patterns.

Input:

  1. Start by choosing your input, increase or decrease.
    • If decrease add:
      • Number of stitches you have before increasing
      • Number of stitches you want to increase
    • If increase add:
      • Number of stitches you have before decreasing
      • Number of stitches you want to decrease

The results will then automatically show below.

Output increase:

You will then get how often you should increase. You can get either 2 or 4 numbers.

If you get 2 numbes:

  • You will increase every X stitches (X = the first number you got).
  • That means:
    • Knit or crochet Y stitches as usual & then increase 1 (Y = the second number you got).
    • Repeat until you have knitted or crocheted all the stitches.

If you get 4 numbers:

  • You will increase every X & Y stitches (X = the first number you got, Y = the second number you got).
  • That means:
    • Knit or crochet A stitches as usual & then increase 1, then knit or crochet B stitches as usual & then increase 1 (A = the third number you got, B = the fourth number you got).
    • Repeat until you have knitted or crocheted all the stitches.

Output decrease:

You will then get how often you should decrease. You can get either 2 or 4 numbers.

If you get 2 numbers:

  • You will decrease every X stitches (X = the first number you got).
  • That means:
    • Knit or crochet Y stitches as usual & then work 2 together (Y is the second number you got).
    • Repeat until you have knitted or crocheted all the stitches.

If you get 4 numbers:

  • You will decrease every X & Y stitches (X = the first number you got, Y = the second number you got).
  • That means:
    • Knit or crochet A stitches as usual & then work 2 together, then knit or crochet B stitches as usual & then work 2 together (A = the third number you got, B = the fourth number you got).
