You’re going to love the crochet Christmas Hat, this is truly a Christmas & holiday crochet pattern. It’s not like your typical Santa hats, but more a lovely winter crocheted hat with typical Christmas colors.

Need something warm to wear during the Holiday season? This crochet beanie is perfect!

It’s an easy crochet pattern, because it’s mostly single crochet stitches with tapestry color changes. Next, it’s worked in 1 piece, and whip stitched together at the end. Finally all you’ll need is to add a pom pom.

This crochet pattern comes in 7 sizes from 12-18 months to adult sizes. It’s definitely a great fun Christmas themed hat pattern for the whole family.

The Yarn

For the crochet Christmas Hat use some great holiday colors. As this pattern matches the Crochet Christmas Sweater, you’ll find white yarns, red yarns and green.

However, you can of course use any yarn color and make this for different occasions.

The Petite Wool suggested is a high quality yarn that comes in a lot of great colors, but for this project I used Forest Green, Natural & Red.

The yarn comes in skeins that are 100 g & 153 yards, and are size 5 bulky.

You can possibly opt for a slightly thinner yarn like a worsted weight yarn, but then you’d need to go up a size to be sure it fits. In that case, the smallest size might fit a newborn.

Find the yarn here.

A Great Christmas Crochet Project

The crochet pattern for the crochet Christmas Hat is truly one of the great Christmas crochet patterns! It’s a great crochet gift idea, but also great to make for yourself.

The crochet beanie is great to wear during the hectic Christmas preparations & of course also during Christmas.

The crochet Christmas hat is not one of the typical Santa hat patterns, but rather a great Christmas season hat with pompom, great for the Christmas photos with the entire family creaw. Isn’t it cute to dress up with the same hat as the toddlers and kids for a lovely holiday season theme?

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Read the crochet pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours!
  • Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger. Learn more about testing gauge.
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
  • This pattern is written for 7 sizes, where the different sizes is given in parentheses like this: 12-18 months (18-24 months) 2-5 years (child) teen (woman) man. If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under “Size & Measurements”.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis.
  • Please note, that odd rows on diagram are read from the right to the left, while even rows are read from the left to the right.

Techniques You Will Need

Reading Color Diagram

  • On odd rows move yarn strands due to color changes on the wrong side, behind the work (furthest from yourself), on even rows keep yarn strands due to color changes in on the wrong side, in front of the work (closest to yourself).
  • Please note, that odd rows are read from the right to the left, while even rows are read from the left to the right.
  • Grey vertical lines are made to show sizes. Start counting the grey vertical lines from the right, where the first line is for size 12-18 months, the second for size 18-24 months and so on.

Change Colors

When changing from one color to another, you’ll never finish the stitch with the color you where working with.

Do all the steps of the stitch, then leave the last step unworked. Yarn over with the color for the next st & pull yarn through.

Repeat this every time you change colors to make the color changes look beautiful.

Change Color When the First & Second Stitch On A Row Has Different Colors

When the first & second stitch on a row has different colors, you should finish the last stitch on the previous row with the color for the first stitch on the next row.

Then you should do the first chain to start the row with the color for the second stitch on the row you are starting.
