How To Crochet The Mosaic Crochet Napkin Ring

The mosaic crochet napkin ring is crocheted in rounds from the bottom up.

You will start with foundation single crochet stitches, then move on to crochet the overlay mosaic crochet technique.

Whatโ€™s great about this colorwork technique is that youโ€™ll use one color at a time.

The final round is just regular single crochet stitches.

Yarn For The Mosaic Crochet Napkin Ring

For this mosaic crochet napkin ring, you will need to use two yarn colors to make the stitch pattern show up clearly. The more contrasting the colors are, the more prominent the stitch pattern will be.

For this crochet pattern the suggested yarn is Schachenmayr โ€“ Catania, itโ€™s a 2 fine cotton yarn that comes in many different colors.

You can of curse substitute to other yarns & even try experimenting with differentย weights of yarn and crochet hookย to something you have in your yarn stash.

If you change the yarn thickness and crochet hook, consider changing how many rounds you crochet for the base to adjust the overall size of the crochet basket.

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isnโ€™t a helpful answer is it?

Well, Iโ€™ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time youโ€™ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.ย

Techniques Used In The Crochet Pattern

Crocheting in the front and back loop

This means that you will not crochet through the whole stitch as usual. A typical stitch contains two loops. One in the front, nearest you, and another stitch in the back, furthest away from you. One is called theย front loopย (the one nearest you), the other one the back loop, the one furthest away from you.

For this pattern you will crochet double crochet stitches through the front loop &ย single crochetย stitchesย (BLsc) through the back loop.

Mosaic Crochet

To crochet this pattern you will use theย mosaic crochet technique, following theseย 3 simple rules:

  1. You will use color A & color B every other row.
  2. All single crochet stitches are worked in the back loop.
  3. All double crochet stitches (long double crochet/ Ldc) are worked 2 rounds below in the front loop & this front loop are always the same color as the one youโ€™re working with.

Read the Mosaic Crochet Chart

To crochet this pattern you can choose to follow the mosaic crochet chart (starting on round 3), following these rules:

  • Read from the bottom up, from right to left.
  • The yarn color for the round you are going to work are given to the left with letters A and B.
  • The colors in the diagram itself shows how it will look, but donโ€™t pay too much attention to it when working each round. Ratherโ€ฆ
  • Crochet single crochet for each empty box, and long double crochet for each box with an โ€œXโ€.
