How to Crochet the Crochet Raglan Sweater

The top down raglan crochet pullover is worked in one piece seamlessly, which means no sewing.

You start at the neck opening and work the yoke in round down to the bust and arm holes.

From there you will work the sleeves and body separately in rounds.

To finish the crochet raglan sweater, all you have to do is weave in ends.

This crochet sweater is made up of mostly double crochet and single crochet stitches. However, on the sleeves you will also work 3 double crochet stitches together to create the repeating stitch pattern.

The final important technique to mention is the fact that you will work over the yarn for the sleeve colors when you work the front and back part of the yoke. Alternatively you will have to cut yarn at all rounds and weave them in at the end.

Yarn for the Crochet Raglan Sweater

For this crochet raglan sweater crochet pattern the suggested yarn is Lion Brand Yarn Touch of Cashmere. This is 4 medium worsted yarn weight.

Choose 3 yarn colors to make this striped crochet pattern.

It’s a lovely & soft blend between acrylic & cashmere.

Unfortunately this yarn has been discontinued, however you can substitute for a different 4 medium yarn. Make sure you check gauge when substituting to achieve size as desired.

Free Crochet Raglan SweaterCrochet Pattern Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
  • Make a swatch that measures at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. Learn more about testing gauge.
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
  • This pattern is written for 9 sizes, where the different sizes are given in parenthesis like this: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL. If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under the heading “Sizes & Measurements”.
  • At the end of each round, the stitch count is given in parenthesis.
  • Sweater is worked on the right side (RS) in rounds, in one piece beginning with the yoke. After working yoke, you will crochet the body, then finally the sleeves.
  • When working the yoke on this pattern. You will have to cut color B and color C each round.
