How To Crochet The Granny Square Sweater

The Granny Square Sweater is made up of multiple crocheted granny squares. They are then assembled according to the granny square layout shown in the pattern to create a crochet pullover.

Finally edgings are made around the wrists, lower edge and neck opening.

The stitches used are basic and the granny squares are beginner friendly. Choose if you want to assemble with a join as you go method or other alternatives such as the whip stitches or flat slip stitch join.

Yarn For The Crochet Granny Pullover

To crochet this pullover I went for the amazing Wool Ease yarn from Lion Brand Yarn, as I really enjoyed it for the Granny Square Cardigan Crochet Pattern as well.

The yarn comes in many beautiful colors, so you can truly make it the style you prefer.

The Classic Granny Square Turned Crochet Sweater

If you like crocheting the traditional granny squares, being able to use them in different projects are so great.

They’re so traditional that some even call them the vintage granny square. The best thing, is that you may even substitute the traditional granny square with a different square motif, as long as you achieve the same gauge per crochet square.

It’s no secret that I love creating garment patterns & I just had to create a granny square jumper pattern.

It’s also a great addition to your wardrobe.

With some simple edgings, collar & cuff, making the final round of the granny squares the same color, you’ll achieve an overall calmer look.

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

  • The best way to adjust bust size are going up/down in crochet hook size to create a different sized granny square.
  • Alternatively, adjust sleeve and body length by making edging larger at the end.
  • Or adding one(or more) extra row(s) of granny squares at the bottom of the sweater to make it longer.
