Crochet Crunch Stitch or Moss Stitch is one of my absolute favorite alterations of the half double crochet stitch.
It gives texture without making things complex.
I’ve used this stitch for my Lux Headband crochet pattern & also the Lux Hat, however crocheted in the round, not in rows as with this stitch tutorial.

- hdc = half double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch

- This pattern is a stitch multiple of 2 stitches. Add 1 for base chain.

CRUNCH STITCH CROCHET STITCH TUTORIAL:
Ch a multiple of 2 + 1 for base chain.
Row 1: Sc 1 in 3rd ch from hook, sc 1 in each ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, *hdc 1 in next st, sl st 1 in next st*, repeat from *to* until you have 1 st left, hdc 1 in next st, turn.
Repeat row 2 until project is desired size.
