What is the crochet bobble stitch pattern?
The crochet bobble stitch in itself is a combination crochet stitches that creates texture in your crochet work.
In this tutorial you will learn a crochet stitch pattern where the bobbles are organized in a specific pattern.
The stitches you will need to know is chains, half double crochet and single crochet stitches.
The pattern is a stitch multiple of 4 stitches.
Materials Needed
To crochet the bobble stitch you can use any crochet hook size and weight yarn. If you’re following a crochet pattern, use the crochet hook and yarn suggested to get the correct gauge.
For this tutorial I used:
- Crochet hook size: 5.5 mm / US: I-9 / UK: 5
- We Crochet – Swish Worsted
- It’s a 4 medium / worsted yarn.

- This pattern is a stitch multiple of 4 stitches. Add 3 for base chain.
- This stitch pattern is made with half double crochet stitches between the bobble stitches, but you could easily swap that for double crochet (dc stitches) instead.

Bobble (bo) Written Description
Yarn over, draw up a loop from next st, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook, *yarn over, draw up a loop from same st, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook*, rep from *to* 3 more times, you have 6 loops on the hook, yarn over, pull through all loops.
Note: You are making the bobble stitch from the wrong side & the bobble will show on the right side (the side that’s not facing you).
To Make a 15 cm x 15 cm / 6 x 6 Inch Square
With the hook & yarn given, I crocheted:
- Ch 23 st, for a total of 22 stitches per row.
- 21 rows, including base row.

Instructions
Bobble
- The first steps are for the bobble itself, photos for the stitch pattern can be found further down. Yarn over.
- Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop.
- Draw through first 2 loops on hook. Repeat 1/5 finished.
- Yarn over.
- Draw up a loop from same stitch.
- Yarn over and draw through first two loops on hook. Repeat 2/5 finished.
- Yarn over.
- Draw up a loop from same stitch.
- Yarn over and draw through first two loops on hook. Repeat 3/5 finished.
- Yarn over.
- Draw up a loop from same stitch.
- Yarn over and draw through first two loops on hook. Repeat 4/5 finished.
- Draw up a loop from same stitch.
- Yarn over.
- Yarn over and draw through first two loops on hook. Repeat 5/5 finished.
- Yarn over.
- Pull through all 6 stitches.
- A bobble finished (a single crochet worked in next st). Notice it's worked from the wrong side, so the good looking side of the bobble is on the right side of the work.

- Ch a multiple of 4 + 3 st.
Base row
- Sc 1 in 3rd ch from hook, sc 1 in each ch from previous row, turn.
Row 1
- Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), *bobble 1 in next st, sc 1 in next st, hdc 1 in the next 2 st, repeat from *to* until you have 1 st left, hdc 1 in next st, turn.Here you start with ch 2.
- First bobble finished. Sc worked in next st. Notice it’s worked from the wrong side, so the good looking side of the bobble is on the right side of the work.
- Hdc in the next 2 st.
- How row 1 looks finished, from the wrong side.
- How row 1 looks finished, from the right side.
Row 2
- Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), hdc 1 in each st across, turn.
Row 3
- Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), hdc 1 in the next 2 st, *bobble 1 in next st, sc 1 in next st, hdc 1 in the next 2 st, repeat from *to* until you have 3 st left, bobble 1 in next st, sc 1 in next st, hdc 1 in next st, turn.Here the first ch 2 and 2 hdc stitches are finished.
- Row 3 from the wrong side.
- Row 3 from the right side.
Row 4
- Repeat row 2.Continue repeating row 1-4 until project is desired size.
