When Hobbii yarns reached out to me to ask me if I wanted to receive some yarn from them, I was so happy.

The yarn to design this pattern is sponsored by Hobbi Yarns, but I’m not otherwise compensated by them.

THE YARN

To crochet this cardigan I used a yarn called Tivoli by Hobbii, in the color Dark Mint (21).

The yarn comes in 43 beautiful colors & is a 100 % Acrylic yarn.

My experience with Hobbii yarns is that they ship fast & the delivery is fast as well. I’ve also been really happy with the quality of the yarn I’ve received so far.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CROCHET THAT?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

ABOUT THE PATTERN:

The crochet Ver Cardigan is a great crochet garment for your wardrobe, & let’s fill it with lots of crocheted clothes.

To crochet this cardigan you have to have a bit of crochet experience since the skill level is intermediate. However I would absolutely say that if you’ve crocheted a few projects already, this might still feel like a rather easy project. What’s so great is the fact that there’s no fancy stitches, just basic stitches you already know.

The crochet Ver Cardigan comes in 9 sizes from XS – 5XL & there’s also suggestions on how you can adjust it to fit you perfectly!

GAUGE:

Measured with treble crochet stitches crocheted in rows:

15 stitches & 6 rows per 10 cm / 4”.

NOTES:

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms (more details).
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.

  • Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours!
  • Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger (more details).
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge (more details).

  • This pattern is written for 9 sizes, where the numbers for the different sizes is given in parenthesis like this: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL. If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin, to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under “Size & Measurements”.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis.
  • Treble crochet stitches are crocheted on the right side (RS), while single crochet stitches are crocheted on the wrong side (WS). The yoke & body are crocheted back & forth in rows. The sleeves are crocheted with turning rounds, to keep stitch pattern consistent.

SIZE NOTES:

  • This pattern is written to have a standard fit, that means about 5-10 cm ease.
  • Take measurements to find the size that fits the best.

SIZE ADJUSTMENTS:

  • Note: Any size adjustments affect yarn usage & you might need more/less yarn than suggested.

Sleeves:

  • For all sizes: Best places adjust length by adding or reducing rows are: After round 14 before decreasing on round 15, or after round 30 before decreasing on round 31. Alternatively after round 36.
  • For the smaller sizes: The arm might end up slightly to wide. Change that by decreasing 2-3 stitches extra either on round 15 or 31.
  • For the bigger sizes: The arm might end up slightly to tight. Change that by decreasing 2-3 stitches less either on round 15 or 31.

Body:

  • For all sizes: Best places to adjust length by adding or reducing rows are: After round 10 before decreasing for waist, after round 18 before increasing after waist.
  • For all sizes: Skip increase or decrease rows to adjust fit.

STITCHES YOU WILL NEED:

You’ll need to know corner stitch, foundation single crochet stitches, slip stitchessingle crochet stitches & treble crochet stitches.

FOUNDATION SINGLE CROCHET STITCH (FSC):

Written description:

Step 1: Ch 2 st.

Step 2: Insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, pull up a loop. Yo and pull through first loop (making “chain”). Yo and pull through both loops on hook.

Step 3: Insert hook into previous “chain” you made (It should look like you go through a resemblance of a “normal” st, with 2 strands of yarn), pull up a loop, yo and pull through first loop (making “chain”). Yo and pull through both loops on hook.

Repeat step 3 until you’ve made enough stitches. *2nd ch in step 1 makes 1 st, step 2 makes 1 st & every time step 3 is repeated you make 1 st.

Tutorial:

Foundation Single Crochet Stitch

CORNER STITCH (CS):

tr 1 in next st, sc 1 around post of prev tr, hdc 1 around post of prev tr, dc 1 around post of prev tr, tr 1 around post of prev tr.

*This stitch is made in 1 stitch & creates 5 stitches. Made twice in each corner.
**See description on how to crochet around a post below.

TECHNIQUES YOU WILL NEED:

CROCHET MULTIPLE STITCHES AROUND THE POST OF A STITCH:

In this pattern you will have to crochet multiple stitches around the post of a treble crochet stitch.

The post of a treble stitch is the part of the stitch not connected to the stitch below or the previous stitch, in other words it’s the part that creates the height of the stitch. It essentially looks like a “post”, as the name suggests.

To crochet around the post of the stitch you insert the hook from the right side of the post, behind the post & to the left side. Then you pull up a loop from the left side of the post, behind to & the right side of the stitch. Then you finish the stitch as you usually do.

Repeat for all stitches instructed.
