Yarn for the Chunky Crochet Cardigan

For this crochet garment you’ll need two yarn colors of warm yarn. The crochet Regelo Cardigan was designed using Bernat Roving.

What’s amazing about this yarn is the fact that is super soft & feels great against the skin.

It’s a combination between wool & acrylic, which makes it both warm & comfy.

You can find the Bernat Roving yarn here.

The Perfect Fall Crochet Project

This chuncky crochet cardigan is for sure the perfect crochet project for fall. It’s super cozy, easy to make & fun because it works up fast.

You will absolutely enjoy crocheting this cardigan, because the end result is so beautiful!

For fall & winter season it’s easy to fall into always crochet hats, headbands & mittens, but crochet garments is such a great addition to your wardrobe.

What I personally love the most about crochet cardigans is the fact that they’re easy to grab when heading out!

Tip, make it in a color that works with almost any outfit!

Chunky Crochet Cardigan – Free Crochet PatternCrochet Pattern Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
  • Make a swatch that measures at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger. Learn more about testing gauge.
  • Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
  • This pattern is written for 4 sizes, where the different sizes are given in parenthesis like this: S/M (L/XL) 2XL/3XL (4XL/5XL). If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under the heading “Sizes & Measurements”.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis. It includes starting stitches (see details under “starting rows”).
  • Starting rows:
    • Start regular DTCS rows like this: ch 2, 1 tr directly in 1st st (counts as 1st DTCS).
    • Start split DTCS rows like this: ch 2, 1 tr in next st (counts as 1st DTCS).
  • This chunky crochet cardigan might stretch in length and widen when used.
  • Take measurements to find the size that fits the best.

Changing Color With Different Color On Different Rows

When working with different colors on different rows, you’ll never finish the last stitch on the last row with one color, with the color you where working with.

Do all the steps of the stitch, then leave the last step unworked. Yarn over with the color for the next st & pull yarn through.

Repeat this for every row you change colors to make the color changes look beautiful.
