The Bacca Sweater Dress crochet pattern makes a really thick & quick crochet sweater dress that’s perfect for winter. It stitches up really quick because of the big hook & yarn.
It’s easy to make, because it only mostly contains basic crochet stitches. Give it your style with your own color choices. Maybe a one-colored one is right for you?

Gauge
Measured with half double crochet stitch crocheted in rows:
Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger. This pattern is written for 9 sizes, where the numbers for the different sizes is given in parentheses like this: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL. If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin, to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under “Size & Measurements”.
At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis.
Take measurements to find the size that fits the best.
Size Adjustments
Arms:
For all sizes: Best places to adjust length by adding or reducing rows are: After row 9 before increasing on row 10, or after row 12 before increasing on row 13. Alternatively after row 24.
For all sizes: Start with fewer/more stitches, added/reduced by 1 stitch at a time to adjust fit.
Body:
For all sizes: Best places to adjust length by adding or reducing rows are: After row 26 before changing to CP. Alternatively after row 38 before starting on shoulders.
For all sizes: Start with fewer/more stitches, added/reduced by 1 stitch at a time to adjust fit.
Yo, insert your hook from front to back between the prev st & the st you’re working, & bring it to the front again between the st you’re working & the next st, yo & pull up a loop, you have 3 loops on the hook, yo & pull through 2 of the 3 loops, yo and pull through the 2 last loops.
Back Post Double Crochet Stitch (BPdc):
Written description:
Yo, insert your hook from back to front between the prev st & the st you’re working, & bring it to the back again between the st you’re working & the next st, yo & pull up a loop, you have 3 loops on the hook, yo & pull through 2 of the 3 loops, yo and pull through the 2 last loops.
You will need to know how to change colors in crochet with different color on different rows.
CHANGING COLOR WITH DIFFERENT COLOR ON DIFFERENT ROWS:
When working with different colors on different rows, you’ll never finish the last stitch on the last row with one color, with the color you where working with.
Do all the steps of the stitch, then leave the last step unworked. Yarn over with the color for the next st & pull yarn through.
Repeat this for every row you change colors to make the color changes look beautiful.
Row 1: With CA dc in 4th ch from hook (1st 2 st counts as 1st dc, 3rd st counts as last ch from ch row), dc 1 in the next 33 (35) 38 (40) 43 (46) 48 (49) 51 st from ch row, turn (= 34 (36) 39 (41) 44 (47) 49 (50) 52 st).
Row 2: With CA ch 2 st (counts as 1st st), *FPdc 1 in next st, BPdc 1 in next st*, repeat from to* until end of row, turn (= 34 (36) 39 (41) 44 (47) 49 (50) 52 st).
Row 3: With CA hdc 1 directly in 1st st (no chain), hdc 1 in the next 33 (35) 38 (40) 43 (46) 48 (49) 51 st, turn (= 34 (36) 39 (41) 44 (47) 49 (50) 52 st).
Row 4-25: With CA repeat row 3.
Row 26-38: With CB repeat row 3.
Do not fasten off.
SHOULDER 1:
Continue where you left of on the front & back. Repeated on both parts.
Row 39: With CB hdc 1 directly in 1st st (no chain), hdc 1 in the next 11 (12) 14 (15) 16 (17) 18 (19) 20 st turn (= 12 (13) 15 (16) 17 (18) 19 (20) 21 st).
Row 40: With CB repeat row 39.
Fasten off & cut yarn leaving a long tail to use when you’re assembling the garment on the shoulder (A in diagram).
SHOULDER 2:
Continue crocheting on row 39. Start with CB in next st after skipping 10 st from row 21.
Row 39: With CB hdc 1 directly in next st (no chain), hdc 1 in the next 11 (12) 14 (15) 16 (17) 18 (19) 20 st turn (= 12 (13) 15 (16) 17 (18) 19 (20) 21 st).
Row 40: With CB repeat row 39.
Fasten off & cut yarn leaving a long tail to use when you’re assembling the garment on the shoulder (A in diagram).
Sleeves
The sleeves is crocheted from bottom up.
Repeat this 2 times to make two arms.
Ch 16 (16) 16 (17) 17 (17) 18 (18) 19 st with CA.
Row 1: With CA dc in 4th ch from hook (1st 2 st counts as 1st dc, 3rd st counts as last ch from ch row), dc 1 in the next 13 (13) 13 (14) 14 (14) 15 (15) 16 st from ch row, turn (= 14 (14) 14 (15) 15 (15) 16 (16) 17 st).

Row 18-24: With CB repeat row 17.
Fasten off & cut yarn.
ASSEMBLY:
Seam the shoulders (A in diagram) & sides of the sweater dress (B in diagram) with the yarn used, with either slip stitches & hook or stitching with a needle. Seam the arms (C in diagram) & then attach the arms to the body (D in diagram) the same way.
COLLAR:
Attach the thread to the side seam on one of the shoulders. Crochet two rounds around the neckline with approximately 34 stitches on each round like this.
Round 1: With CB ch 2 st (counts as 1st st), *FPdc 1 in next st, BPdc 1 in next st*, repeat from *to* until end of round, sl st in 2nd ch from beginning of round (= 34 st).
Round 2: With CB repeat round 1.
