How To Crochet The Sweater Dress
The crochet sweater dress starts at the neck opening, and from there you will work downwards in rounds to create the yoke.
What separates this raglan yoke is the open eyelets created by chains. When the yoke is finished you will split into two sleeves and the body.
The sleeves are worked in rounds downwards directly onto the yoke, making this crochet sweater dress seamless.
Finally you will crochet the body from the bust to below the hips. Included are shaping for the waist. To customize to your own shape, you can easily add or reduce the number of decreases and increases you do.
What makes this crochet sweater dress super easy is the fact that you only need to know beginner crochet stitches such as the single crochet stitches, treble crochet stitches and chains.
There’s also a detailed stitch tutorial showing this stitch combination here.
Yarn For The Crochet Sweater Dress
The suggested yarn for the Crochet Sweater Dress is a Norwegian yarn called Peer Gynt. It’s a 100 % wool yarn & it’s perfect for cold weather.
However I also suggest using a yarn called Homestead by Plymouth Yarn for this dress. It’s a similar yarn & will work well.
Crocheting this two colored crochet pattern with the simple stripes is a great option, however you could easily pick just one favorite color and make it a solid colored dress.

This crochet sweater dress is also actually a top down raglan dress because it has the beautiful raglan sleeves.
This crochet dress is perfect from October throughout winter, especially if you use the 100 % wool suggested yarn.
However, if you love using cottons, acrylic or any other yarns, it could easily transition to be a dress for warmer weather.

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?
How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?
Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.
It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.
All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Crochet Pattern Notes
- This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
- All measurements given are unblocked.
- Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
- Read pattern instructions carefully before beginning to make sure you understand everything. It might save you hours frogging your work & crocheting it again!
- Make a gauge swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your size hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger (more details).
- Check yarn info if you want to find an alternative or test your yarn against the gauge. Learn more about substituting yarn.
- This pattern is written for 9 sizes, where the numbers for the different sizes is given in parenthesis like this: XS (S) M (L) XL (2XL) 3XL (4XL) 5XL. If just one number is given, it applies to all sizes. I recommend that you highlight or circle the size you’re making before you begin, to make the pattern easier to follow. Size adjustments are added under “Size & Measurements”.
- At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis. It includes starting chains & slip stitch.
- Since you are crocheting in rounds, you will always have the right side towards you.
- Make sure you weave in ends on the wrong side.
- Tip: Use stitch markers to track where you are in the pattern.

Techniques Used In The Crochet Pattern
Changing Color With Different Color On Different Rows
When working with different colors on different rows, you’ll never finish the last stitch on the last row with one color, with the color you where working with. Do all the steps of the stitch, then leave the last step unworked. Yarn over with the color for the next st & pull yarn through.
Repeat this for every row you change colors to make the color changes look beautiful.
