Hi everyone! My name is Amanda Saladin and I blog at Love.Life.Yarn, where I share free knit and crochet patterns for the whole family. Today, I’m here on the Joy of Motion Crochet blog to introduce myself and share some free patterns you might be interested in.
I began designing in college, where I majored in fashion design at Middle Tennessee State University. I had to learn to knit while in college, but it didn’t really take off until four years later, when a friend asked me to teach her to knit while our husbands were deployed with the US Army. I got really into knitting, then learned to crochet, and finally combined my love of design and my love of yarn in 2011. I began publishing knit and crochet patterns in magazines in 2011 and have never looked back. I started my blog in 2012 and got serious about it in 2016. I love designing and sharing FREE knit and crochet patterns!
When I’m not designing, you can find me hanging out with my four little boys (under age 10!) and my hubby, or teaching high school nutrition and child development, which is my day job. It’s a busy life, but I wouldn’t change it for anything!

ABOUT THE DESIGNS AT LOVE.LIFE.YARN:
While I love to design for the whole family, I find myself returning to baby makes again and again. In fact, most of the patterns I am featuring here today are baby makes! I love to design baby blankets, booties, and tiny garments. My baby bat set and the baby butterfly costume I designed for the Hook Nook Life are really popular as well.
I also like the challenge of designing for my older boys and for myself and occasionally I step outside my norm and create amigurumi, bags and more! I’d also love to make my husband a sweater… if only he would wear it! 😉
THE 10 CROCHET PATTERNS FROM LOVE.LIFE.YARN:
This has been the most popular pattern on my site since its release! This is a timeless heirloom baby blanket that is easy to crochet and includes a complete video tutorial.
This pattern was so much fun to make!! Tech edited and pattern tested, this pattern is always popular around Halloween. I got my youngest little guy to model it last year – so cute!
The Hydrangea Baby Blanket uses two Caron Cotton Cakes to create this delightful blanket. Makes a wonderful baby gift. Includes a full video tutorial.
This tech edited pattern comes in kid’s sizes 2-10 and features a cabled front design, hood, and adorable buttons.
Another popular blanket pattern on the blog. The Easy Ombre Baby Blanket uses Red Heart Super Saver Ombre for the color changing effect. Pair it up with a solid border! Full video tutorial.
Designed for my boys, who love fire trucks, this bag can be made by crocheters with very basic skills. Great for beginners, as it uses only sc and chains. Video tutorial, too!
I have several baby bootie patterns on the blog, and this one is always a favorite. You can use this basic pattern to make many styles of baby booties.
Following the success of the Easy Ombre Baby Blanket, I created another blanket using the Red Heart Super Saver Ombre – this one uses a mini bean stitch for a wonderful texture as well as the color change. Full video tutorial for this project as well.
10. Tie Sleeve Tee
This was something I designed for me! The cold shoulder look is super popular, so I designed a warm weather top with tie sleeve detailing. I love wearing this. There are several other women’s sweater designs on the site.
