Learn the 5 basic rules

Let me go through the 5 basic rules so you can crochet tapestry crochet easily!  --->

1

The most common stitch for tapestry crochet is the single crochet stitch. Either worked in the whole stitch or through the back loop only.

Never finish up the last stitch before a color change.  When changing colors the general rule is to pull the last step of the stitch with the new yarn color.

2

Hide yarn tails by working over them.  Place them towards the wrong side of the work and make sure you don't pull them too tight.

3

Learn to read a tapestry crochet chart to follow patterns.  Each square is one stitch, and the colors represent the yarn colors you should use.

4

Leave yarn tails strategically when working in rows.  If you don't need the yarn color more on the row, leave it where you need it next and come back to it later.
