Janne Kleivset - Joy of Motion Crochet

First grab your tools and supplies. All you need to learn the back post double crochet stitch (BPdc) is a crochet hook and yarn!

What you need

It's just a few steps

Let's see a step-by-step photo tutorial or head over to the blog for a video guide!  --->

To start the back post double crochet, yarn over from back to front.  The abbreviation for this crochet stitch is BPdc.

The gap between the stitches is where you are going to insert the crochet hook, and the lower part of the stitch is what is called the post of the stitch.

Insert crochet hook between the first and second stitch from back to front.  Move the crochet hook behind the work to insert the hook.

Between the next two stitches, insert the crochet hook from front to back.  The hook is now on the back of the crochet piece.

Place the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front.  You are now ready to pull up a loop, after this the stitch is like a regular dc.

Pull up a loop, you have 3 loops on the crochet hook.  You have now successfully pulled up a loop around the post of the stitch.

Yarn over from back to front.  You have 4 loops on the hook including the yarn over. Just a few steps left!

Pull yarn through the first 2 loops. You have 2 loops left on the crochet hook at this point.  Ready to finish this stitch?

Yarn over from back to front.  You have 3 loops left on the crochet hook including the yarn over at this point.  Almost finished!

Pull yarn through the last 2 loops on the crochet hook. Repeat steps 1-10 to crochet more BPdc stitches.
