How to Line a Hat Overview
You might think that 7 steps is a lot, but these are really quick & I promise you that you’ll go through these steps within an hour or less.
- Grab your fleece fabric that you’re going to line your hat with.
- Use a marker to draw around the hat.
- Cut the fabric to along the lines.
- Sew together the 2 pieces of fabric to make a “Fleece Hat”.
- Place the “Fleece Hat” inside your crocheted hat or knitted hat.
- Use pins to line the fabric up with the crocheted or knitted hat
- Sew the fleece fabric to the hat.

How To Line a Hat with Fleece Fabric Quickly

Instructions
- Grab your fleece fabric that you’re going to line your hat with. Cut it in a rectangle and fold it double It should have approximately the same size as the hat.
- Use your marker to draw around your hat.Leave 1 cm / 0.4 inch seam allowance at the bottom to fold in later.(Make sure the color of the marker doesn't rub of on the hat).
- Showing how your trace hat should look.
- Starting at one side, cut to remove excess fleece.
- Continue cutting along the whole trace line.
- How it looks after you finish cutting.(These steps could be used on any other crocheted item that you've made. Just draw around & cut).
- Sew the 2 pieces of fabric together to make a “Fleece Hat”. You can choose to use your sewing machine for these steps, but the tutorial shows how to do it by hand.Make sure you have a long tail of sewing thread.
- Sew stitches along the side of the hat. Make sure to sew tight enough to make sure it doesn't have any holes. The right sides of the fleece lining is facing each other.
- When you've finished sewing around the outer end, you don't have to fasten off the tread.
- Place the “Fleece Hat” inside your crocheted hat or knitted hat.
- Use pins to line the fabric up with the crocheted or knitted hat.
- Fold the fabric inwards.
- Hold the folded fabric tightly together with the crocheted or knitted hat.
- Start pinning the fleece evenly along the bottom of the hat.
- Here you can see the bottom of the lining pinned to the crochet hat.
- Continue to pin lining until you have pinned around the whole hat.
- Sew the fleece fabric to the hat. Locate the needle & thread that you didn't fasten off earlier. Start sewing along the bottom of the hat using the whip stitch.
- Continue until you have finished a full round.
- Fasten thread & you are finished. It's time to enjoy your lined hat & consider adding a pom pom to your hat to finish off.
Notes
- This can be used for any crochet hat.
- You may want to use a larger needle than a sewing needle because you will go through thick fabric and yarn.
- Some may find a smaller needle like a sewing needle better.
