You’re going to love this free crochet pattern for the Crochet Cocoon Cardigan.

This crochet pattern makes a crocheted light weight summer cocoon cardigan. It’s a super easy crochet pattern & it’s designed with the beginner in mind. Haven’t crocheted a garment before? No problem! This is super easy & quick too.

This is my go to crocheted shrug for spring & summer, & it keeps my shoulders warm on colder days.

The crochet cocoon cardigan is sort of your typical bum hugging shrug. However it can seem a bit shorter, but it’s summer right? I don’t want you to get weighed down with lots & lots of fabric.

The Yarn

When designing this Crochet Cocoon Cardigan, I wanted to use a thin cotton yarn. The yarn is from Scheepjes Yarn & it’s their Cotton 8. I just love it!

The yarn is beautiful & works really good for spring & summer crochet garments.

Honestly, I can’t wait to use this yarn for more crochet garments!

THE PERFECT SPRING & SUMMER CROCHET PROJECT

This crochet cocoon cardigan is truly perfect for spring & summer. It’s light, it’s easy to make & will work well together with your summer wardrobe. Last year I used mine at a summer wedding & honestly it looked beautiful.

Another positive about a crochet cocoon cardigan is the fact that you’ll be able to work it up quickly & there’s not much hustle with the construction.

This is truly a light weight garment to grab & bring with you anywhere.

For this pattern I used just one color, but there’s no harm in getting creative, multiple colors? Stripes? Surprise me!

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

Materials Needed

Gauge

Measured in the combination of the pattern (treble crochet & single crochet).

1 stitch and 0,4 rows per cm // 10 stitches & 4 rows per 10 cm.

2.5 stitches and 1 rows per inch // 10 stitches & 4 rows per 4 inch.

Size & Measurements:

One-size.

Square will measure 88 cm / 34.6 inches when finished. Armholes can be customized to your preference by the amount of slip stitches you make while finishing.

Size adjustments:

  • Adjust width: Add/reduce the number of stitches you start with by 1 stitch at a time.
  • Adjust length: Add/reduce the number of rows you crochet by 1 row at a time.
  • Preferably crochet until you get a square if you make any adjustments.

Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked, final size might get bigger when blocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger. Learn more about testing gauge.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis. It includes starting chain(s).
  • This pattern is written for 1 size.
