It’s another day & another opportunity to share a FREE crochet pattern, the Crochet Rectangle Shrug.

This crochet pattern is the lightest & most summer friendly crochet shrug pattern. The crochet stitch details makes it both decorative & airy for spring & summer.

So it’s not your typical bum hugging shrug, but rather a quite short one. An idea & shape, which I found that I fell in love with more & more as I made it. It makes so much sense when you just want to cover your shoulders & arms during summer, but not get weighed down with lots & lots of fabric.

The Yarn

The crochet rectangle shrug, is a two color crochet pattern. The yarn is from Wool & the Gang & it’s their Shiny Happy Cotton. You just have to love it!

The yarn is super soft & works really good for spring & summer crochet garments.

If you really like this yarn, you also have to see my Habena top that uses this yarn too.

THE PERFECT SPRING & SUMMER CROCHET PROJECT

This crochet rectangle shrug is truly the perfect spring & summer crochet project. It’s light & breezy & will fit perfectly in anyone’s summer wardrobe. My sister said, “This would be great together with any dress on a Summer wedding”, I agree!

What’s so great is that it’s such a easy constructed crochet piece & it will work well as a light garment to grab & bring with you at any time.

For this pattern I used two colors, but there’s no harm in getting creative, one color? 5 colors? Surprise me!

Since you like the Crochet Rectangle Shrug so much, these might interest you too?

How Long Does It Take To Crochet That?

How long it takes to crochet something varies depending on your skill & how fast you crochet. But that isn’t a helpful answer is it?

Well, I’ve developed a yarn calculator to help you get the answer to this question.

It will help you calculate exactly how much time you’ll spend crocheting a project.

All you need to know is how much yarn you will use on the project in either meters, yards or skeins. Then crochet your test square & time it.

Calculate how long it takes to crochet that.

CROCHET RECTANGLE SHRUG – THE FREE CROCHET PATTERN

About the pattern:

The Crochet Rectangle Shrug is essentially just a crocheted rectangle. To make it into a garment, you have to assemble it to make the armholes.  The shape of this crochet garment, is not your typical bum hugging crochet shrug, as it is shorter.  But, it is a unique crocheted piece for your wardrobe.

I’m tempted to also call it a shawl, because it would function in the same way as a summer shawl.

Learn more about crochet abbreviations & find a complete list on our Crochet Abbreviations & Terms post.

Notes

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • All measurements given are unblocked, final size might get bigger when blocked.
  • Note that measurements are given as exact as possible. But crochet tension & technique might give variations in the result, that changes from person to person.
  • Make a swatch that measure at least 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 inches using the stitch the gauge is given for. If your swatch matches the gauge, you’re good to go. If the gauge is wrong, you might need to change your hook. Go up in crochet hook size if your stitches are smaller & go down in crochet hook size if your stitches are bigger. Learn more about testing gauge.
  • At the end of each row, the stitch count is given in parenthesis. It includes starting chain(s).
  • Color 1 is the white color pictured & color 2 is pink.
